Home care occurs in the privacy, comfort, and
familiarity of the patient’s home. Because most of
us wish to die at home among family and friends,
Hospice enables patients with a life-limiting
illness to stay at
home and still receive quality care.
The patient’s physician directs the medical care
Hospice implements in the home. The Hospice team
engages family members in caring for and supporting
the patient, trains them in care techniques, and
encourages open communication among family members
and patients. Hospice services continue
after the patient’s death as specially trained
bereavement counselors help family members
deal with grief through visits, written
communications, and support programs.
